Caption:
This well known species has a large coiled shell, with an indented (involute) spire and large gapping aperture. The shell is off-white, with a distinctive tan flame like radial bands. There is a black calloused area facing the aperture on the compressed part of the coiled shell. Unlike other species there is no umbilicus. The internal chambers which are used ingeniously as a buoyancy aid. Found in the western pacific. |
